Quickly, this announcement began to generate a huge repercussion among the franchise’s fans, and the expectations about a possible return of this anime started to invade groups focused on the franchise.

The cover of the upcoming issue of Weekly Shonen Magazine finally confirms the production of this much-awaited second season: “A Couple of Cuckoos” will bring us its continuation at some point in 2025, which, objectively speaking, is not too far away, right? Half the year has already flown by in just a blink!…

Obviously, it is too early to know production details, for which we will need to wait for news in the coming months, but they did want to leave us with a pleasant taste in our mouths, through a “conceptualtrailer, which we leave here below. In addition, with the aim of commemorating with the public the incredible announcement about the return of “A Couple of Cuckoos” (which, remember, ended in 2022), Yoshikawa Miki shared on her personal X (Twitter) account a special illustration, which you can also appreciate right below the trailer:

The illustration presented by the author of the original manga “Kakkou no Iinazuke” features the protagonists Erika Amano and Nagi Umino. However, the presence of Ai Mochizuki, a character who apparently will make her official debut in the new season of the series after receiving a cameo in the last episode of the first season, is also highlighted.

Yoshikawa, who is also the author of “Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches” (“Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo“), began the publication of the manga in the Weekly Shonen Magazine of Kodansha publishing house in January 2020, after having published it within a set of three one-shots at the beginning of 2019 and submitting them to a vote for serialization. On April 23, 2022, the manga “A Couple of Cuckoos” premiered its anime adaptation, which was composed of a total of 24 episodes, divided into 2 parts. Moreover, the animation studios Shin-Ei Animation and SynergySP were in charge of the production under the direction of Akagi Horaki. The series is legally available on the Crunchyroll platform, and features subtitles and dubbings in multiple languages.

Synopsis

A Couple of Cuckoos” (“Kakkou no Iinazuke“) tells the story of Nagi Umino, a second-year student at the prestigious Megurogawa Academy, who discovers he was switched at birth. In an ironic twist of fate, Nagi learns about his true origins when he heads to dinner with his biological parents. During his journey, he accidentally encounters Erika Amano, an outgoing and upper-class girl, who, desperate to avoid an arranged marriage, convinces Nagi to act as her fake boyfriend. This unexpected meeting turns out to be more significant than both young people could have imagined.

As the plot unfolds, it is revealed that both youths’ parents have decided to resolve the hospital’s mistake by marrying Nagi to the daughter whom his biological parents raised, who is none other than Erika herself. This revelation leads to comedic situations and emotional conflicts, as both try to navigate their complicated family and romantic relationships while dealing with the pressure of their pre-established family commitments.

The series explores themes of identity, family, and love, all intertwined with humor and teenage drama. The interaction between Nagi and Erika, along with their complicated family dynamics, offers a look at the pressures of meeting family expectations while seeking personal happiness. This familial and romantic entanglement provides both comedic moments and serious reflections on relationships and personal identity.

Without a doubt, after a couple of years of inactivity, this can only mean good news, don’t you agree? And since we’re asking, why not swing by the comments and respond, or leave us your opinion on this franchise? You know, we’ll be reading! 🙂
