On the official website for the anime “Acro Trip,” it has recently been revealed that this series will arrive on Japanese television screens next October. In addition, the website has been updated with a new trailer for this adaptation of the manga created by Yone Sawata, which introduces the main protagonist characters. Ayumu Kotake (Corpse Princess) directs this anime for the newly founded studio Voil. The script is by Shinichi Inozume (Gleipnir, Platinum End), while Toshie Kawamura (Aoashi, Searching for Magical Doremi) handles character design. Additionally, Miwa Kawasaki (Deca-Dence) directs the art, Ryō Tanaka (Inuyashiki) is the sound director, and TECHNOBOYS PULCRAFT GREEN-FUND (Kakegurui Twin) compose the music.
Regarding the voice cast, only a few members have been revealed, as you can see below, along with the designs of the characters they portray:
Miku Itō as Chizuko Date, an otaku obsessed with the magical girl Berry Blossom.
Nobunaga Shimazaki as Chrome, leader of the evil organization Fossa Magna.
Inori Minase as Berry Blossom/Kaju Noichigo, the magical girl who protects the city from Chizuko.
Kengo Kawanishi as Mashirou, the magical mascot of Berry Blossom.
“Acro Trip” is a comedy-type manga written and illustrated by Yone Sawata, which began publication in February 2017, in the monthly magazine Ribbon from Shueisha publishing house, where it continued uninterrupted until its completion in December 2022, during which time it was compiled into 5 volumes, available in the Japanese market.
Synopsis
“Acro Trip” tells the story of Chizuko Date, an otaku girl living in a city in Niigata Prefecture, obsessed with Berry Blossom, a magical girl who protects the city. The plot unfolds around the adventures and misadventures of Berry Blossom and her archenemy Chroma, the leader of the local evil organization Fossa Magna. However, due to Chroma‘s incompetence and weakness, the battles between him and Berry Blossom no longer capture the public’s interest.
Determined to change this situation, Chizuko sets out to illuminate and promote the feats of Berry Blossom. This fervent desire leads Chizuko, a seemingly shy high school girl, down a dark path filled with strange characters and unusual situations. The series explores how Chizuko‘s obsession with her heroine leads her to become more deeply involved in a world that goes beyond mere admiration.
The series, which blends elements of comedy and fantasy, delves into themes such as idolatry, heroism, and the line between good and evil, all seen through the eyes of a young girl whose life revolves around her love for fictional characters. This plot is presented against a backdrop that combines everyday life and the challenges of a magical girl in a small Japanese town.
