The Story Behind “Date a Live”
The story centers on Shido Itsuka, a young high school student who leads a normal life until he finds himself in the midst of a catastrophic event known as a “spatial earthquake,” caused by the appearance of supernatural beings known as Spirits. These Spirits are mostly young girls whose unstable emotions are the source of their destructive power.
Shido discovers that he is able to seal the powers of the Spirits through an unconventional method: making them fall in love with him and kissing them. With the help of an anti-Spirits organization called Ratatoskr, led by his adoptive sister Kotori, Shido embarks on missions to meet different Spirits, earn their trust and affection, and ultimately seal their powers to prevent them from causing more destruction. Throughout the series, Shido encounters various Spirits, each with their own personality and background, and must navigate a series of complicated situations, both romantic and dangerous, to achieve his goal.
The plot of “Date a Live” unfolds in a world where the threat of Spirits and spatial earthquakes is a constant concern for humanity. As Shido interacts with the Spirits, secrets about their origin and the true purpose behind their existence are revealed. The series combines elements of science fiction, romance, and comedy, while exploring themes such as identity, sacrifice, and the meaning of love. With each Spirit that Shido manages to seal, he comes one step closer to the truth behind the spatial earthquakes and the fate of the Spirits.
