First Gameplay of TITAN QUEST 2

August 3, 2024

It’s clear to all of us that Blizzard‘s Diablo saga was the origin of many action RPGs from many studios that hit the market following the first installment of the franchise. Many tried to replicate the formula of that first game, and the subsequent ones, but very few managed to match its level. Perhaps one of those few, and one of the most cherished titles from the early 2000s, was the literally “mythicalTitan Quest by Iron Lore Entertainment and THQ. Therefore, the news of a sequel for this title that has delighted so many of us (myself included) could not be anything but super exciting.

Without getting bogged down in minor details, THQ Nordic has not yet confirmed a specific release date for Titan Quest 2, although we suspect it could arrive, with some luck, in early 2025. Instead, they have gifted us a juicy gameplay video, the first to show the game in motion, outside of cinematics. So without further delay, here you can see the gameplay:

For the first time, we can see the game in motion, amidst some of the Mediterranean landscapes we will traverse, and many of the enemies, small and large, that we will face, all inspired by beings from Greek mythology, which we will have to confront during our adventure. Of course, we also see several types of heroes we can bring to life, and even for a few seconds, we can appreciate the skill tree.

Like the original title, we will build our character based on two masteries, resulting in a large number of possible combinations, creating a hybrid result that will surely best suit our style of play. Obviously, there will be plentiful loot and weapons that we can easily upgrade, but also, as before, with some knowledge, which ensures many hours of gameplay.

An RPG That Made History

What are we talking about when we mention Titan Quest?

The original title was released on June 26, 2006, and it was an action RPG, or ARPG, developed by Iron Lore Entertainment and published by THQ. Set in an ancient world influenced by Greek, Egyptian, and Asian mythologies, the game invited players on a heroic adventure to stop the Titans who had escaped from their eternal prison, sowing chaos in the world. The game was notable for its unique class system based on the combination of different Masteries such as Defense, Warfare, Hunting, among others, allowing extensive character customization.

Players could choose from a wide range of abilities by investing points in skill trees called Masteries, which defined the class and skills of their characters. The game included single-player and cooperative multiplayer modes, where players could join online or via LAN. There was also a Level Editor that allowed players to create and share their own levels.

The development of Titan Quest began with the creation of Iron Lore Entertainment by Brian Sullivan while working on Age of Empires. Inspired by the mythology of the region, Sullivan conceived the idea of a similar game. The pre-production process lasted over a year, and after a successful pitch to THQ in January 2004, formal development of the game began. Since its release in 2006, Titan Quest has received several expansions, including Immortal Throne, Ragnarok, Atlantis, and Eternal Embers, which expand the narrative and universe of the game by introducing new areas, enemies, and gameplay mechanics.

So…

What did you think of the gameplay? Personally, I can’t help but feel fascinated by everything related to that franchise to which I dedicated so much time (because I’m no longer talking about mere hours XD)… How about you take a turn in the comments, and let us know what you thought about the news, or share your best moments? If you’ve read this far, you surely have them! You know gamer, we’ll be reading! 😉
