Yes, as the title says: fans of the super popular franchise “Rent-a-Girlfriend” (“Kanojo, Okarishimasu”) are in luck! In Japan, the 7th anniversary of Reiji Miyajima’s original manga is being celebrated, during which an incredible announcement has been made that has thrilled everyone who has been following this work over the years: the production of a fourth season for the television anime has finally been confirmed.
This impressive news was confirmed by all the official media of the animated franchise, which shared a fascinating illustration created by Reiji Miyajima, the author of the manga that originated the anime “Rent-a-Girlfriend”, and announced that the new installment of the series is scheduled to premiere in Japan, at some point next year, 2025.
As part of the announcement, the respective official media have confirmed that the new season of this anime will cover the “Hawaiians Arc”. Obviously, in this half-year and a little more that we have left from now until the premiere of this eagerly awaited installment, we can expect new information. And meanwhile, what better than to enjoy this seventh anniversary of the original manga, right?
“Rent-a-Girlfriend” (“Kanojo, Okarishimasu”) is a popular romantic comedy manga written and illustrated by Reiji Miyajima, which started publication in July 2017 in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine. The manga is still being published and has been compiled so far into 36 volumes available on the Japanese market. Just a few months ago, it was confirmed that the work has surpassed the incredible figure of 13 million copies in circulation!
Obviously, the excellent reception by the public has been key in the decision to adapt it into an anime in 2020. On July 10 of that year, the manga “Rent-a-Girlfriend” premiered its animated series adaptation, consisting of 3 seasons to date, adding up to a total of 36 episodes. The animation studio TMS Entertainment was in charge of the production under the direction of Kazuomi Koga, and it is currently available through the Crunchyroll platform with its respective dubbing in multiple languages.
Synopsis
“Rent-a-Girlfriend” tells the life of Kazuya Kinoshita, a university student who, after breaking up with his girlfriend, plunges into a deep emotional desolation. In an attempt to remedy his emotional void, he turns to a curious mobile app that allows him to rent a woman to act as his girlfriend. Thus, during his exploration of the app, Kazuya meets Chizuru Mizuhara, who projects the perfect image of a girlfriend, with stunning beauty and undeniable charm. However, after their first encounter, Kazuya is confronted with negative opinions about Chizuru’s profile. Influenced by the wounds of previous relationships, he concludes that she manipulates men’s feelings, so he decides to give her an unfavorable rating.
Indignant at Kazuya’s lack of consideration in giving her a low rating, Chizuru shows him her true personality. However, due to a series of circumstances, Kazuya and Chizuru find themselves committed to simulating a romantic relationship, acting as if they were genuinely in love, initially to please Kazuya’s grandmother and partly also Chizuru’s grandmother. As the plot progresses, both protagonists face various obstacles and comedic situations while struggling to maintain the facade. Parallelly, they discover more about themselves and their true feelings.
