As the headline states, the production team responsible for the “Good Bye, Dragon Life” anime (“Sayonara Ryūsei, Konnichiwa Jinsei“) has recently published a second promotional trailer for the project, along with a new visual that looks super promising. The video introduces new members of the main cast and confirms the premiere date for this adaptation set for this coming October.
Remember, “Good Bye, Dragon Life” is a series of light novels written by Hiroaki Nagashima, which began serialization in January 2013 through the self-publishing website Shōsetsuka ni Narō and later moved to the AlphaPolis website, where it continues to be available today. From the same publisher, the physical format of the series has been published since 2015 and features illustrations by Kisuke Ichimaru, currently having 24 volumes available on the Japanese market. Also in 2015, the online publication of a manga adaptation began, which was drawn by Kurono, and to date, it includes 12 compiled volumes.
Regarding the adaptation at hand, the production team in charge is as follows: Ken’ichi Nishida (Kira Kira Happy Hirake! Cocotama, Papuwa) directs this anime for Synergy SP and Vega Entertainment studios. The script is by Naokatsu Tsuda (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, The Book of Bantorra), Nozomi Kawashige (Battle Game in 5 Seconds) is in charge of character design, and the musical composition is by composers Tatsuhiko Saiki (My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!, I Parry Everything) and Hanae Nakamura (The Quintessential Quintuplets, The Witch and the Beast).
Following the announcement, two new voice actresses join the cast of this adaptation:

Akane Matsunaga as Airi
They join the previously announced cast, which includes the participation of Shunsuke Takeuchi and Hitomi Sekine in the roles of Dolan and Celina, respectively.
Synopsis of “Good Bye, Dragon Life”
“Good Bye, Dragon Life” introduces us to Dolan, a legendary dragon who, after eons of existence marked by ceaseless battles and reverential fear from other beings, including gods, meets his end at the hands of a heroic human warrior. However, this apparent end only marks the beginning of a new journey when Dolan awakens in a human body in a remote village, stripped of his old power but retaining vague memories of his past life. This reincarnation offers him a unique opportunity to rediscover life from a humble and earthly perspective, far from the conflicts and devastation that characterized his previous existence.
In his new life as a human, Dolan adopts a simple routine that includes working in the fields and hunting for subsistence. Despite the simplicity of his new existence, he discovers a happiness and contentment unknown to him as a dragon. His tranquility is disrupted when he encounters Celina, a lamia, a half-human, half-snake creature seeking companionship but facing rejection due to her hybrid nature. The interaction between Dolan and Celina becomes a central axis of the plot, as both learn to navigate their differences and form a bond that defies the conventions of both worlds.
As the friendship between Dolan and Celina deepens, both characters face external challenges that threaten their peaceful coexistence. The narrative delves into themes of acceptance, transformation, and the search for identity, exploring how Dolan, once a feared and nearly omnipotent creature, seeks his place in a world radically different from the one he once dominated. This transformation from a being of infinite power to a common human existence is treated with a mix of nostalgia for what was and hope for what may become, offering a reflective look at what it truly means to live a fulfilling life.
A fantasy story perhaps difficult to categorize within the “Isekai” genre, but that undoubtedly offers that touch of originality we often seek on the screen to capture our attention completely.
