“Jujutsu Kaisen” Officially World’s Leading Anime!

April 6, 2024

The anime “Jujutsu Kaisen” has been officially recognized as the most in-demand animated television show in the world on the official site of the Guinness World Records, snatching the title from “Shingeki no Kyojin” (“Attack on Titan“), which had held it since 2020. According to the data science firm Parrot Analytics, “Jujutsu Kaisen” has a global demand rating 71.2 times greater than that of an average television show.

Parrot Analytics calculates ‘demand‘ based on how much attention, engagement, desire, and audience consumers express for content. Its system captures billions of new data points each day, including video consumption (streaming and downloads), social media engagement (hashtags, likes, shares), and research actions (for example, reading about a show on IMDb). Actions that require more effort from the consumer, such as watching or downloading a show, are weighted more heavily in calculating demand.

Based on the manga series of the same name by Gege Akutami, “Jujutsu Kaisen” follows the story of student Yuji Itadori, who joins a group of Jujutsu Sorcerers to defeat Ryomen Sukuna, the King of Curses, of which Yuji becomes the host. The anime surpassed close competitors such as “One Piece” and “Shingeki no Kyojin” to claim the top spot in the 2023 rankings. “One Piece” enjoyed a surge in interest due to the release of the Netflix live-action adaptation, which attracted new fans to the series and inspired older fans to rewatch previous episodes. “Shingeki no Kyojin“, which concluded its final season in November, remained immensely popular but narrowly lost out this time.

Ultimately, it was a year-end surge that put “Jujutsu Kaisen” in the lead. New episodes of the second season were released in July and continued until the end of the year, with a growing demand for the show during this time. It peaked on December 29 with 128 times the demand of the average show. With Generation Z (ages 13 to 22) comprising 71.3% of the viewers, “Jujutsu Kaisen” resonated with a younger audience than both “One Piece” (56.7% of Generation Z) and Attack on Titan (64.4%). This enthusiastic fan base ultimately helped make the anime the most popular of the year.

Now it’s your turn. What do you think about this? Do you believe “Jujutsu Kaisen” deserves such recognition, or do you disagree? Go ahead, the comments are all yours. We’ll be reading! 😀
