Author Karuho Shiina Commented:
The return of the series over time must be a great surprise to those of you who enjoyed the anime back then. I was one of the people who enjoyed it back then. I was very surprised and very, very happy. I was able to observe the postrecording, and Sawako is Sawako and Kazahaya is Kazahaya. I couldn’t believe that more than 10 years had passed, and I was so moved by the wonderful performances of the cast. The pictures are also very cute! The cohesion of each episode is too nice, so please come back and enjoy it with us again!
The Kimi ni Todoke: From Me to You manga, created by Karuho Shiina and illustrated, served as the inspiration for the anime. From 2005 until 2017, the manga was serialized in Bessatsu Margaret. It was completed after 123 chapters, which were compiled into 30 volumes. From 2007 through 2015, the Cobalt Bunko imprint published a light novel adaption by Kanae Shimokawa, who is best known for the novelization of the Nana series.
The illustrations were created by Shiina. Kimi ni Todoke: From Me to You – Soulmate, a spin-off narrative that takes place after the original manga’s events, was also serialized in Bessatsu Margaret from 2018 to 2022 and compiled into three volumes. Shimokawa also wrote a one-volume prequel novel titled Kimi ni Todoke: Ashita ni Nareba, which was released when Shiina was on maternity leave and the manga in Bessatsu Margaret was put on hold.
In 2010, a live-action film based on the manga was published. A new film, co-produced by Netflix and TV Tokyo, had its premiere in March. The anime is also available on Netflix.
