On the official website for the anime adaptation of the light novels written by Shu and illustrated by Yoshinori Shizuma, “Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha” (“The Misfit of Demon King Academy“), they have announced the return of the franchise in the continuation of its second season, and what better way to do it than with a promotional video?
Indeed, the video confirms the premiere of its second cycle on April 12 in Japan, which is very soon! In addition to that, the video also lets us enjoy a snippet of the new opening theme titled “Maou“, performed by BURNOUT SYNDROMES, and tells us about some of the new members of the voice cast:
- Nao Touyama as Arcana.
- Toshihiko Seki as Ahide.
- Aoi Yuuki as Miritia.
As we know, the first season of “Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha” premiered during the summer season 2020 (July – September) in Japan, reaching a total of 13 episodes, which was followed by the first part of the second season, which was broadcast in Winter 2023 (January – March), leaving us impatient for this continuation.
Shu began publishing the light novels on the independent service Shousetsuka ni Narou back in April 2017, and later through the Dengeki Bunko label, belonging to the Kadokawa publishing house, in March 2018, featuring illustrations by the talented Yoshinori Shizuma.

- Kazuyuki Yamayoshi (Deep Insanity: THE LOST CHILD, Circlet Princess, ChäoS;Child) is in charge of character design and animation direction.
- Jin Tanaka (Tokyo Ghoul, Date A Live, Yesterday wo Utatte) is in charge of writing and supervising the scripts.
- Keiji Inai (Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka, BTOOOM!, Outbreak Company) is in charge of composing the soundtrack.
Synopsis
“Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha” (also known as “The Misfit of Demon King Academy“) is a series that revolves around Anos Voldigoad, the Demon King reincarnated in a peaceful world after 2000 years. Anos, despite being the most powerful being in history, finds himself in an era where his feats are distorted legends and his demonic lineage is no longer synonymous with terror and oppression. By enrolling in the Demon King Academy, intended to train the future rulers of demons, Anos quickly discovers that his immense power makes him a misfit, as neither teachers nor students can recognize his true strength and legacy. The story follows Anos as he seeks to reclaim his rightful place in the world, demonstrating his power and wisdom, and unraveling the mysteries behind the distortion of his history.
Throughout the series, Anos encounters various challenges and opponents, both inside and outside the academy. One of the central elements of the plot is the competition between Anos and other candidates to be the successor of the Demon King, especially those who cannot accept the idea that a “misfit” like him can be their supreme ruler. In addition, the series explores Anos‘s relationships with his classmates and subordinates, including Misha and Sasha Necron, twin sisters with a powerful and mysterious bond.
