Approximately a week ago, the anime adaptation of the manga Mattaku Saikin no Tantei to Kitara by Masakuni Igarashi was made official. This comedy work will arrive on Japanese television at some point next year, 2025, in a series format. In addition to the news, a first promotional trailer lasting one minute and fifteen seconds and a first promotional image of the project were presented.
In the video, the two protagonists of this story created by Masakuni Igarashi are presented: it is about the detective Keiichirō Nagumo, who runs his own investigation agency, and the high school student and detective assistant, Mashiro Nakanishi. Both are performed in the animated series by Junichi Suwabe and Kana Hanazawa, respectively.
Regarding the production team that is working on this Mattaku Saikin no Tantei to Kitara project, only the director, Rion Kujo, who has worked on the anime Love Doll, Samurai Harem, and Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero, has been announced so far. Anyway, we still don’t know anything about the animation studio that is behind this series.
Masakuni Igarashi, author of Senryū Girl, writes and draws the original manga of Mattaku Saikin no Tantei to Kitara, which is published in the pages of the Dengeki Maoh magazine by ASCII Media Works since April 2016. The work remains open in Japan with 14 compiled volumes, and the fifteenth volume will be released next Tuesday, August 27.
Synopsis
Mattaku Saikin no Tantei to Kitara revolves around Nagumo Keeichirou, a detective who was recognized as a genius during his high school days for his ability to solve any case, no matter how complex. However, as the years pass, Nagumo‘s life takes a drastic turn. At 35, with physical problems and leading a declining detective agency that receives no cases, he finds himself at a standstill, struggling even to pay rent. The arrival of a high school student at his office, proposing to work with him, could be the spark he needs to rekindle the fire of his youth.
The series mixes comedy with mystery, exploring how Nagumo, with his outdated and disconnected approach to modern methodologies, faces the challenges of staying relevant in a world that has changed much since his glory days. The young student, Mashiro, not only brings a new case to the table but also challenges and complements Nagumo‘s skills, infusing new life into his daily routine and his approach to detective work.
Throughout the series, the cases they face are both picturesque and intriguing, offering a balance between humor and suspense. The dynamic between the veteran detective and his young apprentice becomes the emotional core of the plot, showing how collaboration between generations can lead to innovative solutions and renew enthusiasm for a profession Nagumo had considered nearly lost.
