It wasn’t long ago when we learned of the leak about the possible production that would mark the return of the Monogatari Series. Well now, the producer Aniplex has confirmed what we all already took for granted: Monogatari Series will return, this time through an anime adaptation of the “Off Season” and “Monster Season” subfranchises, from the light novels written by Nisio Isin. So far, the format of these productions has not been revealed, so we cannot say whether they are series, movies, or OVAs, but what we can affirm is that the premiere will be this very year! This has been confirmed by the producer.
Nisio Isin began publishing the Monogatari Series light novels in August 2005, through the Kodansha publishing house, with the talented illustrations of Vofan. To date, the publisher has released twenty-nine volumes, covering a wide variety of subfranchises, whose titles always end with the suffix “-monogatari“. The SHAFT studios have been in charge of the multiple anime adaptation installments since 2009.
According to the light novels, “Off Season” consists of four volumes (Orokamonogatari, Wazamonogatari, Nademonogatari, and Musubimonogatari) and “Monster Season” of six volumes (Orokamonogatari, Wazamonogatari, Nademonogatari, Musubimonogatari, Shinobumonogatari, and Yoiomonogatari), whose synopses are as follows:
Monogatari Series: Off Season
Oddities and supernatural phenomena have always existed. Some stories date back approximately 600 years. Shinigami, the monkey’s paw, vampires, murderous felines, mermaids, wanderers roaming in the mountain fog, wolves, golems, and perhaps most terrifying of all: humans. The “specialists in oddities,” whose purpose is to fight, regulate, and solve the countless mysteries surrounding each of these oddities, have tirelessly collected all these stories for centuries. The plot of Monogatari Series: Off Season follows eight protagonists of these events, in some cases specialists, and in others, the oddities themselves, during their interaction with the bizarre world of aberrations, often falling into dangerous situations, due to their own mischievousness.
Monogatari Series: Monster Season
“It is elegant to save a girl who has nothing to do with you from time to time.” The students of Naoetsu High School have been disappearing one after another without explanation. Eventually, their bodies are discovered in a state of mummification, with a very peculiar mark on the neck. Koyomi Araragi is now a first-year student and wastes no time getting started to discover the responsible for these events.

What is the Monogatari Series?
It is a story, a kind of “phantasmagoria,” about lurking monsters and myths, supernatural and false. The story of Koyomi Araragi begins after a fateful encounter with a very famous blonde-haired, “hot-blooded, iron-blooded, and cold-blooded” vampire, later introduced as Shinobu Oshino. This encounter ends Araragi‘s life as a human and marks his subsequent rebirth as a vampire, a monster. However, all this is just the beginning of his interaction with the supernatural. Koyomi‘s noble personality leads him to become increasingly involved in the lives of other people suffering from supernatural-origin cases. From there, we will witness his desperate attempts to return to a normal human life, in a world full of tragedy and inhumanity, filled with paranormal events.
Absolutely, this news excites us a lot. Are you one of us? Will you be keeping an eye out for updates on the new productions of the Monogatari Series franchise? Come on, tell us what you think in the comments! As always, we’ll be reading 🙂
