The Japanese light novel series written by Tsukikage and illustrated by Chyko, Nageki no Bourei wa Intai shitai, was published on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in January 2018. After this, the rights were acquired by Micro Magazine, which began publishing Nageki no Burei under its GC Novels label in August 2018.
Nageki no Bourei wa Intai shitai also has a manga adaptation, which has been illustrated by Rai Hebino, and began serialization on Kadokawa Shoten‘s ComicWalker manga website in April 2019.
Synopsis
Nageki no Bourei wa Intai Shitai, also known as “Let This Grieving Soul Retire! Woe is the Weakling Who Leads the Strongest Party,” is a fun saga of misunderstandings and adventures in a world filled with magic and mystery. The protagonist, Krai Andrey, is a uniquely weak character but finds himself at the core of a group of treasure hunters recognized as the strongest in the kingdom. Despite his actual incompetence in combat and magical skills, Krai‘s actions and words are misinterpreted by his peers and rivals as strategies of a tactical genius, leading him to achieve entirely accidental victories against enemies he actually does not understand.
The charm of the story lies in how Krai Andrey, unintentionally, rises to the top of the adventuring hierarchy thanks to an endless series of comedic misunderstandings. Each new challenge faced by the group results in situations where, for example, Krai might clumsily stumble, which accidentally results in the defeat of a formidable monster or the solving of an ancient riddle. This cycle of fortuitous victories is celebrated by his companions who revere Krai as if he were a legendary hero, further strengthening the misunderstandings surrounding his true nature.
Throughout the series, Krai Andrey and his group encounter various secondary characters who enrich the plot with their own stories and peculiar personalities, adding depth and variety to the central narrative. However, critics and fans agree that the potential for Krai‘s character development is an aspect that could be explored further in the series. By addressing this aspect, “Let This Grieving Soul Retire!” could evolve from being a comedy series based on repetitive patterns to one with richer character arcs and more complex group dynamics, maintaining audience interest in Krai Andrey‘s future adventures.
Okay, I think it will take us longer to pronounce his full name in English than to receive the premiere of the series on October 1st. Anyway, we will definitely be on the lookout for that date, right? And while we’re at it, why don’t you stop by the comments and leave us your opinion on this proposal? You know, we’ll be reading you! 🙂
