During the celebration of “AnimeJapan 2024,” many announcements were made, and various novelties were shown. Kadokawa Anime was present, and obviously, it was no exception in terms of news: they presented a new trailer for the anime “God’s Game We Play” (“Kami wa Game ni Ueteiru“), based on the light novels written by Kei Sazane and illustrated by Toiro Tomose, also adapted into manga by Kapiko Toriumi in 2021. In the video, in addition to showing various scenes from the series and its protagonists, you can also hear a preview of the song “I’m GAME!,” performed by singer and voice actress Hina Tachibana, which serves as the ending theme of the series, which will premiere on Japanese television on April 1st.
The name of a new voice actress joining the series’ cast was also revealed. We are talking about Miyu Tomita, who plays the character of “beautiful and mysterious girl,” joining a cast that we already had confirmation of:

Production
Tatsuya Shiraishi (Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie Part 3: Rebellion) directs this anime for LIDEN FILMS studio. The script is the responsibility of NTL, while Yoshihiro Watanabe (Haganai, Level 1 Demon Lord and One Room Hero) does the character design and Gin (Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro, Pop Team Epic) composes the soundtrack in collaboration with Pony Canyon.
Kei Sazane, also the author of the light novel series “Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World” (“Kimi to Boku no Saigo no Senjō, Arui wa Sekai ga Hajimaru Seisen“), is the one who writes this story published by Kadokawa since January 2021, and to date has 6 compilation volumes with illustrations by Toiro Tomose. As we mentioned before, the light novels were also adapted into a manga in the Comic Alive magazine, from the publisher Media Factory, illustrated by the talented Kapiko Toriumi, currently being available in the Japanese market, with 2 compilation volumes published to date.
Synopsis
“God’s Game We Play” is a visual novel that follows the story of Akihiko, a young man who lives an ordinary life until one day he encounters a mysterious application on his phone. The application invites him to participate in a divine game, where he must compete against other players to win the favor of the gods and obtain supernatural powers. As Akihiko delves into the game, he discovers that it is not just a simple entertainment, but is intrinsically linked to his past and the fate of the world.
Throughout his journey, Akihiko encounters various characters, each with their own motivations and secrets. Some become allies, while others reveal themselves as adversaries in the struggle for divine power. As he progresses in the game, Akihiko must face increasingly difficult challenges, make complex moral decisions, and uncover the truth behind the divine game. At the core of “God’s Game We Play,” the narrative delves into deep issues such as individual autonomy, ethics, and the concept of the divine, as Akihiko strives to find his purpose in a universe where deities manipulate the fate of human beings.
