Synopsis
The movie “My Oni Girl” narrates the heartwarming adventure of Hiiragi Yatsuse, a freshman high school student who faces great difficulties in making friends, despite his efforts to please others. His life takes an unexpected turn on a warm summer day, when he meets Tsumugi, a young oni (a type of demon in Japanese mythology) who has come to the human world in search of her mother. This unexpected meeting triggers a series of extraordinary events, marked by the fall of snow in the middle of summer, symbolizing the unusual nature of their union and the beginning of their peculiar journey together.
Throughout the film, the relationship between Hiiragi and Tsumugi deepens as they embark on a mystical quest, leading Hiiragi to confront and overcome his own insecurities and fears. Tsumugi, with her indomitable and energetic spirit, not only searches for her mother but unknowingly helps Hiiragi find a sense of belonging and self-worth. As they progress in their quest, both characters learn about the value of friendship, courage, and self-acceptance, all set in a world where the magical breaks the boundaries of the everyday.
