A new promotional video for the highly anticipated anime series “Terminator Zero” has been shared on the official YouTube account of the well-known streaming platform, Netflix. Perhaps one of the strongest points of the trailer, besides its plot content, is the revelation of its scheduled date: Netflix has confirmed a worldwide premiere for this coming August 29th, even earlier than we might have expected! If you want to know what we’re talking about, just take a look at what follows:
The wait, which has kept fans excited since 2021 when the project was announced, is about to come to an end: “Terminator Zero” will have 8 episodes, and although it will obviously be part of the “Terminator” universe, it will focus on new characters, which is a cleverly thought-out narrative strategy, as it will capture the attention of both long-time fans of the famous saga and also attract new audiences.
“The Terminator” is a science fiction movie directed by James Cameron and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, and Michael Biehn. The story is based on various tales and ideas by Harlan Ellison. Although it was not expected to receive a large reception, the film premiered on October 26, 1984, and was a box office success, prompting the production of several sequels, as well as adaptations to a multitude of media.
It is now a true cult saga, and given its setting in a conflict-ridden 20th century whose outcome has made possible the existence of various futures in many parallel timelines, which as we all know, provides many narrative possibilities, such as countless “Terminator” units of different models and forms having gone to the past and returned to the future countless times, among all its movies, series, comics, and video games.
Production and Voices
The anime “Terminator Zero” will be produced by Skydance Animation and Production I.G., which has surprised the entire community with a new style exclusively designed for this new series. Additionally, in the video, we can hear a voiceover by Sonoya Mizuno, the renowned British-Japanese actress and model who we have seen in major productions like “Ex Machina,” “La La Land,” “Beauty and the Beast,” and who also embodies Mysaria in “House of the Dragon” from HBO since 2022. In this instance, she lends her voice to a character named Eiko, to narrate this sensational and exciting trailer.
As if all the above were not enough, the actors who will make up the cast of this anime have also been presented: the series will star Timothy Olyphant (“Justified,” “Deadwood,” “Santa Clarita Diet”) as Terminator, André Holland (“Moonlight,” “The Knick,” “Castle Rock”) as Malcolm Lee, Rosario Dawson (“Rent,” “Sin City,” “Daredevil”) as Koroko, and Ann Dowd (“The Handmaid’s Tale,” “Hereditary,” “The Leftovers”) as The Prophet. On the other hand, the production team is composed of Mattson Tomlin who has worked on “Project Power” and “The Batman II”, as executive producer and screenwriter of this new series. David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger from Skydance are the executive producers, and Masashi Kudo directs the anime at Production I.G.
