Do you know what “Still Wakes The Deep” is? It is none other than the new horror game from the creators of “Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs,” and yes, as the headline says, it already has a release date. “Still Wakes The Deep” will be available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass to enjoy on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC next June 18.
Those among us who are fans of horror games focused on exploration and narrative (obviously including myself), will soon be celebrating, as soon as the publisher Secret Mode releases this new game in digital format. “Still Wakes The Deep” is the latest work from The Chinese Room, the studio responsible for “Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs” and one of my personal favorites, “Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture,” as well as being in the process of developing the upcoming “Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2.”
In “Still Wakes The Deep,” we will find ourselves immersed in an environmental horror game influenced by the work of H.P. Lovecraft, with some shades of elements typically used by filmmaker David Cronenberg. We will undoubtedly be able to enjoy a captivating, yet claustrophobic atmosphere, in which we can get trapped by the mystery behind the main plot.
This title, which impresses with its photorealistic graphics, is set on an oil rig in the North Sea, which is on the verge of collapse following a strange accident. We will face puzzles of varying levels of difficulty and go through moments of tension and extensive exploration on foot, running, climbing, and swimming, although, as The Chinese Room has accustomed us, all we can do in the face of the mystery of this imminent danger is to run and hide. There will be no direct combat.
Mystery and Horror with Touches of Realism
On this oil platform, most of the workers, including the protagonist, are Scots, portrayed by voice actors from the country, as released in a press statement. Yes, of course, we are talking about a fantastic story whose main drive is terror, but the developers have wanted to represent what the hard life of a worker on these gigantic structures situated in the middle of a vast and dangerous sea is like.
