These light novels, authored by Keiso and illustrated by Kureta, began publication in June 2017 on the self-publishing websites Kakuyomu and Shosetsuka ni Narou, under Kadokawa. Two years later, in September 2019, after being acquired by ASCII Media Works, they started to be physically distributed, amassing seven compiled volumes to date. Kodansha began a manga adaptation of the series in March 2021, published in their Monthly Shōnen Magazine, illustrated by the artist Meguri. This adaptation is still ongoing, currently boasting two compiled volumes.
The anime adaptation was announced on February 12, 2023. The animation is being handled by Passione Studios and is scheduled to premiere on January 3, 2024, on Tokyo MX and other networks. The opening theme, “Shura ni Otoshite“, is performed by Sajou no Hana, while the ending theme, “Hakka”, is sung by Konomi Suzuki. Disney+ will be broadcasting the series globally.
The team working behind this project has already been revealed:
- Yuki Ogawa (Mieruko-chan, Ishuzoku Reviewers, Hajimete no Gal) is directing the anime at Passione Studios.
- Kenta Ihara (Death Parade, Vinland Saga, Youjo Senki) is handling the scriptwriting and supervision.
- Youko Kikuchi (Kuroko no Basket, Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom, Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu) and Yuka Takashina (Plunderer, Oda Nobuna no Yabou, Inari, Konkon, Koi Iroha) are in charge of character design and animation direction.
- Masahiro Tokuda (Platinum End, Deca-Dence, King’s Raid: Ishi wo Tsugumono-tachi) is composing the soundtrack.
The voice cast includes:
- Reina Ueda as Yuno the Distant Talon.
- Yuki Kaji as Soujiro the Willow-Sword.
- Jun Fukuyama as Hoshihase Ars.
- Akio Ohtsuka as Hargend.

Synopsis of Ishura
The story of Ishura is set in a world where the mighty Demon King has been defeated and killed. The group of demigods responsible for this feat has inherited the world: a master swordsman so skilled he can defeat any opponent with just a glance, a spearman so fast he can break the sound barrier, a rugged wyvern that fights with three legendary weapons simultaneously, an all-powerful wizard who can bring thoughts to life, and an angelic assassin capable of instant death. They are all eager to earn and deserve the title of ‘True Hero‘, thus each pursues challenges against formidably powerful enemies, igniting conflicts among themselves. This sets the stage for a long struggle to determine who is the most powerful among the powerful.
