A web domain was recently opened announcing the light novel series The New Gate will finally have an anime adaptation. This page, now the official website of the series, has also published information about the production team and the main cast, as well as confirming the premiere, which will take place soon, during 2024, also accompanying this information with a first emotional image:
The project is directed by Tamaki Nakatsu (Eyeshield 21: The Phantom Golden Bowl) for Yokohama Animation Lab and Cloud Hearts studios, while Hiroki Uchida (Gamers!, The Strongest Sage With the Weakest Crest) is in charge of the script. Other team members include, among others, Itsuki Takemoto (Naruto Shippūden, animation direction in KanColle) in character design, and the talented Tatsuhiko Saiki, Yūya Mori, Misaki Tsuchida and Tsugumi Tanaka in charge of composing the soundtrack. On the other hand, the voice of Shin, the protagonist, is that of Kensho Ono. Asami Seto brings to life Schnee Raizar and Tiera Lucent is voiced by Kaede Hondo.
The New Gate is a series of Japanese light novels written by Shinogi Kazanami. It originated on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in 2013, and was later published in print by AlphaPolis, featuring illustrations by Makai no Jūnin, KeG, and Akira Banpai, from December 2013. In 2016, the digital publication moved to the publisher’s web platform, and continues to be published to this day, currently having 21 volumes edited in the Japanese market while the digital publication is at 18 volumes.
It had a manga adaptation that began serialization on the AlphaPolis website in November 2014, illustrated by Yoshiyuki Miwa, who dedicated an original illustration for the announcement of the animated adaptation. Later in October 2016, a mobile game based on the novel was released, and its service remained active until January 2021.
What is The New Gate about?
A massively multiplayer online role-playing game (VR-MMORPG) became a real-life death challenge for its players. Shin, known for being the bravest and most powerful, eventually freed all players by defeating the Final Boss, ending the game’s cycle. But just moments after his victory, he was engulfed in a mystical halo of light that transported him about 500 years into the future, in the same world of the game. The young swordsman was transported from a faulty game to a new unknown scenario with dangers and environments that challenged everything he knew… Shin was about to embark on a legendary adventure!
Have we raised your expectations for 2024? Well, ours certainly have. We would be lying if we said we are not eager to finally know this adaptation, considering the success and the trajectory that the manga and light novels have had.
