“Undead Unluck” Will Be Back in 2025

August 1, 2024

The announcement was made on the official site for the anime adaptation of the manga written and illustrated by Yoshifumi Tozuka, “Undead Unluck“: nothing less than the production of a new sequel for this franchise which will be a special one-hour episode, set to premiere during the Winter 2025 season (January – March) in Japan. The new visuals reveal a fierce snowstorm and a saber wrapped in flames, suggesting the story will pick up directly from where the series left off.

This is one of the few occasions when real information contradicts or differs significantly from a previous “apparently reliableleak. A few months ago, we received information claiming that a second season was already in production, but this has not yet been confirmed. Of course, this might still happen or follow after the special episode airs, but for now, all we can do is wait for further updates. Nonetheless, even the voice actors took a moment to share their thoughts on this special episode:

Yuuichi Nakamura (voice of Andy): What will this one-hour special hold for us? I believe the way the story is presented will differ from a 30-minute piece, so I’m eager to see what kind of visuals they will show us… I can’t wait to see it! I look forward to the day we can all say together, ‘It’s great, it’s amazing!’

Moe Kahara (voice of Fuuko Izumo): Until just before I thought of this comment, the content of this big announcement was a secret even to me… Honestly, I was really looking forward to it, so I’m incredibly happy!! I’m thrilled to see ‘Undead Unluck’ in anime again and to play Fūko-chan once more. As a fan of the original manga and as a voice actress, I’m eagerly anticipating the moment. I will continue to give my all so as not to fall behind Fūko-chan and the others, who have become even stronger after the Autumn arc!

Yoshifumi Tozuka began publishing the manga in Shueisha‘s Weekly Shonen Jump in January 2020. An anime adaptation produced by David Production and directed by Yuki Yase premiered during the Fall-2023 season (October-December) and consisted of a total of twenty-four episodes.

Synopsis of “Undead Unluck”

After reading the conclusion of her favorite manga series, Fuuko Izumo feels finally ready to end her existence. For the past 10 years, Fuuko has been affected by a condition that brings extreme misfortune to anyone who touches her. This has had a drastic impact on her surroundings, even inadvertently causing the death of those around her, including her parents. While standing on a bridge over the train tracks, Fuuko is touched by a strange man, causing the bridge to break and him to fall in front of an approaching train.

However, when Fuuko finds the man’s corpse, she discovers that his body is regenerating and coming back to life. The man, whom Fuuko names Andy, is immortal and, like her, also wishes for death. Initially reluctant, Fuuko decides to team up with Andy to give him the best death possible; but a mysterious organization lurks in the shadows, waiting to take advantage of the duo’s strange abilities.

Certainly, many of us have been captivated by Fuuko‘s adventure (and misadventure), and whatever our expectations may be, we can surely agree that this is great news, isn’t it? And since we agree, why not swing by the comments and let us know your thoughts on this? You know we’ll be reading! 🙂
