The official website of the anime Villainess Level 99 (Akuyaku Reijō Level 99: Watashi wa Ura Boss Desu ga Maō dewa Arimasen – ‘EN’: Villainess Level 99: I May Be the Hidden Boss but I’m Not the Demon Lord) announced that this adaptation of the light novel series written by Satori Tanabata, and illustrated by Tea, will finally make its debut on Japanese television very soon, this upcoming January 9th. In addition, the page also presented a new trailer, where we can enjoy a preview of the theme “LOVE or HATE” sung by the artist Mayu Maeshima, which is the opening of the series.
As if that were not enough, the same portal has also revealed a new promotional image where the main characters can be seen, with Yumiella Dolkness right at the front:
In the technical team of the project, we find well-known names, such as Minoru Yamaoka (Wakako-zake, Zo Zo Zombie) in the direction for the studio Jumondo, Hitomi Kaiho (Fairy Tail, Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic) and Lo Ho Kim (Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer) who are in charge of character design, Fumihiko Shimo (Date a Live IV, Full Metal Panic!) supervising the scripts, and Kana Utatane (Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill, Nights with a Cat), who is in charge of the musical composition. Kazuhiro Arai (Urusei Yatsura) is the art director; Shiori Shirazaki (Kill la Kill) takes care of object design and Hitomi Fujii (Samurai Champloo) of color. Editing is by Emi Onodera (Kyoukai Senki), while Jin Aketagawa (Horimiya) directs the sound and Toshiya Wada (Giant Killing) handles the sound effects.
And we cannot forget the talents who lend their voices to the protagonists:

This isekai publication was started by Satori Tanabata in June 2018, on the self-publishing portal Shōsetsuka ni Narō. Later in May 2019, Kadokawa launched the first volume of the light novel through its Fujimi Shobo label, counting to date with five volumes published in Japan, which have illustrations by Tea. Nokomi illustrates the manga adaptation in Enterbrain‘s Log Comic magazine since 2023, which currently has three volumes already published in Japan.
Who is Yumiella Dolkness?
Yumiella Dolkness is a typical RPG otome villain, not to mention the detail that she is also a powerful hidden boss. But behind that power and presence, the reality is that Yumiella was not always Yumiella. She used to be the typical introverted college student, as well as a devoted gamer. Eventually, as soon as she realized that she had reincarnated as a hidden boss, she decided to stay completely out of the way of the main protagonists and stay alive, wishing for only that: a simple and peaceful quiet life.
What she didn’t expect was for her gaming instincts to emerge, making it impossible for her to ignore such stats. Yumiella reached level 99 and when everyone else found out, they completely misunderstood! They thought she was the Demon Lord!! From that moment on, her life became nothing but more complicated, which is exactly the opposite of what she wanted: to return to her peaceful and quiet life.
